MEN
OF COLOR PRESS RELEASE

Men
of Color Study Bible (Book Review)
From: Black Issues Book Review
Date: 11/1/2002
Author: Granberry, Anthony
Nia
Publishing Company has hit the mark again with its series of
Bibles targeting people of color. Evidence of its previous success,
the Women of Color Study Bible, can be found under the arms
of numerous sisters making their way to Bible study and worship
service. The Men of Color Study Bible will undoubtedly appeal
to their counterparts.
This
"Good Book" includes not only the complete books of
the Old and New Testaments, but it also offers practical guidance
to men of color on issues that affect their everyday lives.
The biblical texts are punctuated with essays and commentaries
written by an eclectic group of contributors that includes contemporary
gospel recording artist John P. Kee and writer/educator Dr.
Jawanza Kunjufu and cover topics from instilling faith to the
calling for emotionally connected fathers. Other essays address
more global issues related to social justice, the black presence
in the Bible, and misconceptions about Christianity that may
be responsible, in part, for the exodus of black men to Islam.
The
Men of Color Study Bible might be more aptly titled "The
Black Man's Study Bible" because it is only directed to
contemporary men of African descent. Despite this misnomer,
a Bible that speaks solely to their predicament is clearly necessary
and justifiable because African-American men face particular
faith challenges separate from other men of color. The editors
of the Men of Color Study Bible can collectively shout "Hallelujah!"
because they have successfully designed an invaluable tool for
black men who are serious about living the Christian life in
spite of their particular plight.
